A simple recipe of the famous Tungrymbai or Axone/Akhuni.

Ingredients:

  • 500 grams fermented soybean ( buy here )
  • 1 cup grated onion
  • 4 tablespoon black sesame seed/perilla seeds paste ( buy here )
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric ( buy here )
  • 2 pork cut into small pieces ( optional)
  • 2 tablespoon sliced ginger
  • Oil to fry
  • Salt to taste
  • Green/red chilies or dry king chili ( buy here )

    Method:
  • Mash the fermented soybean paste and keep aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan and add onion, and fry till translucent.
  • Add turmeric and salt
  • Add the soybean paste
  • Add salt to taste
  • Add the ginger slices just as you get the aroma of tungrymbai.
  • Add some water ( not too much, not too less )
  • Let it be cooked and boiled for 25-30 minutes.
  • Stir it every 2-3 minutes 
  • When it becomes a thick paste, then you will know it is ready.

     Your Tungrymbai/Axone is ready to eat.
